How payments are calculated

Print

You will receive a payment equal to the contract price multiplied by the metered electricity output from your microFIT project.

It is important to note that the load customer (e.g., the homeowner) is responsible for paying for all electricity consumed, regardless of whether the electricity was supplied by the microFIT project or the local distribution system.

Calculation for a typical microFIT project

The payment would be calculated as follows:

  • A three-kilowatt (kW) solar PV project could produce 280 kilowatt-hours (kWh) in one month.
  • The microFIT contract price is 80.2 cents per kWh.
  • The microFIT payment is:
    • 280 kWh x $0.802/kWh = $225.

Calculation for an incremental microFIT project

For a microFIT project that is an incremental project (i.e., an addition to an existing project), only the proportion of electricity that is attributed to the microFIT project will receive the microFIT contract price. The attributed amount is determined using the incremental project ratio.

For example, a three-kW solar PV microFIT project is installed as an incremental project to an existing one-kW solar PV system for a total project of four kW. The expanded project could produce 375 kWh in one month. The payment would be calculated as follows:

  • The incremental project ratio is three kW divided by four kW = 0.75.
  • The electricity attributed to the microFIT project is 375 kWh x 0.75 = 280 kWh.
  • The microFIT payment is:
    • 280 kWh x $0.802/kWh = $225.
