To apply to the microFIT Program, you must submit an application online once you have registered for the program.

When filling out the application form, please ensure that the legal name of the applicant is:

  1. the person who or legal entity that will hold the local distribution company generator account associated with the microFIT project
  2. the person who or legal entity that will sign the connection agreement with the local distribution company for the microFIT project.

The generator account (also known as a customer account) is created for your renewable energy project by your local distribution company. This account will be in addition to the customer account that was created for your home.

Application review and conditional contract offer

The OPA will review your application within 60 business days of submission to ensure that your project meets the microFIT Program eligibility requirements. If your project meets these requirements, the OPA will update your status to “Pending LDC Offer to Connect.”

Once you have submitted a request to your local distribution company (LDC) for an “Offer to Connect”, the LDC will determine if there is connection capability for the proposed project. If the LDC has determined that there is connection capability, it will notify the OPA with its “Offer to Connect” the project. The OPA will then issue a “Conditional Offer of microFIT Contract.”

This offer means that you are guaranteed to get a contract provided that:

  • you comply with the microFIT Rules
  • your microFIT project is successfully connected to the distribution system with appropriate metering
  • your microFIT project meets domestic content requirements.

The conditional offer expires after six months.
